Today is my last day in the office for 2009. So I find it fitting to make a list of my environmental new years resolutions!
My main goal is to eat less meat. Not only is it not very good for you in excess, but it’s also a big contributor to co2 emissions. The meat that I will buy will be from a local butcher right down my street. I used to be pretty good with my meat consumption, mainly because I’m cheap and didn’t know how to cook it. I (sort of) learned how to cook meat so it has crept back up on me, so I have to make a conscious effort to eat less!
My other goals include:
Rethinking my purchases- I won’t buy anything that I don’t need and I’ll make sure that I’m buying second hand if possible. I’ve found that second hand kitchen appliances work better than new ones, because the newer ones have just been made to look pretty and destroy itself within two years. I have put a few vetoes on myself for purchases: mainly purses (oh dear) and soap, simply because I have more than enough of the two.
Continuing to bike/walk to work- it’s way better! For serious. I recently started walking to work, and I had forgotten how fun it is to crank up my music and walk and think. When I’m biking, I have to keep eyes on the back of my head- which I enjoy as well! For right now, biking in minus billion degree weather is rough for my asthma.
These are the ones that I can think of off the top of my head. Does anyone else have any ‘green’ new years resolutions? Comments!
