100in1Day

100in1Day is a festival of ideas that celebrates the collective power of small action. On Saturday, June 2nd, 2018 Peterborough will host its first 100in1Day festival joining cities around the country and across the globe as part of a larger movement. 100in1Day is a citywide event with pop-up community-based interventions happening on the streets, sidewalks, alleyways, parks, public squares, waterfronts, front lawns, porches, and common spaces. The concept is simple: Get 100 people in a city to do something positive – and do it all on the same day.

WHY PARTICIPATE?

If you’ve ever had a great idea to improve your neighbourhood or community, here is your chance to test it out! 100in1Day may be temporary but the festival has the potential to produce ideas that can grow beyond June 2nd.

IDEA WORKSHOPS

Leading up to 100in1Day on June 2nd, the festival will host a series of free interactive workshops to help residents and community groups bring their ideas to life. Workshops encourage ideas and creativity to flow – no idea is too small, no change is too big. Participants identify shared desires for change, map local assets, and generate tangible projects and interventions to advance their change.

Workshops Dates:

  • Monday, May 7th 6pm-9pm at YMCA Board Room, 123 Aylmer St South, Peterborough Ontario
  • Tuesday, May 8th 1-4pm at Ptbo Public Library Multi Purpose Room, 345 Aylmer St N, Peterborough Ontario
  • Tuesday, May 8th 6-9pm at Lett Architects, 138 Simcoe St, Peterborough, Ontario

Program History

100In1Day was started in 2012 by a group of design students in Bogotá, Colombia who intended to launch six urban interventions that would maximize the potential of their city.

Over beers, they decided to be more ambitious and launch 100 urban interventions that would take place in one day.

On May 26, 2012, over 250 urban interventions took place in Bogotá, and a phenomenon was born. Since then, it has spread to over 31 cities around the world.
