Volunteer Opportunity – Buckthorn Blitz!
October 17 @ 3:00 pm - 6:00 pm
Free
It’s the Buckthorn Blitz! If you know common buckthorn, you will know that it is an invasive species – one that pushes out native plants. It grows fast, and regrows faster, and that is why we need your help to reclaim Ecology Park’s shoreline!
Who: Anyone interested in learning more about invasive species, and getting down to business to remove them from our natural public spaces. Participants should be able to comfortably lift, shovel, bend, kneel, pull, and carry for the duration of their volunteer shift.
What: Two afternoons of volunteering fun in Ecology Park. We will work in groups of 3-6 to reclaim the understory along the waterfront and Field Naturalists Trail in Ecology Park by using the extractigator: a fast acting plant-removing tool.
When: October 17th and 18th, 3-6pm.
Where: The Nursery is located at 1899 Ashburnham Drive in Peterborough. Parking is in the south end of the Beavermead lot off Marsdale Drive: walk down the Trans Canada Trail from there.
Note: Closed toed shoes are required, and long sleeves are strongly recommended. Dress for the weather.
The Ecology Park Native Plant & Tree Nursery is located at 1899 Ashburnham Drive in Peterborough. We will go to the trail after meeting there. Parking is in the south end of the Beavermead lot off Marsdale Drive: walk down the Trans Canada Trail from there.
