March 2021 Zero Waste Feature

March 5th, 2021

In recognition of Women’s History Month & International Women’s Day on March 8, this month’s Zero Waste Feature is Garden of Eden’s Reusable Menstrual Pads.

Handmade by Maureen Brand of Buckhorn, Ontario, these washable pads are made with layers of soft cotton flannel, a PUL waterproof barrier, and durable snap closures. Maureen offers a complete range of sizes, small enough to use with the skimpiest thong and large enough to keep you covered all night long.

Choosing to ditch disposable pads or tampons is a great way to reduce your environmental footprint as well as your monthly expenses. Conventional menstrual pads contain a ton of plastic, with the leak-proof base, absorbent synthetics, and packaging. Tampons are not much better with their plastic applicators and strings. Disposability has been marketed as essential for convenient and “discreet” menstruation. It’s high time we #ChooseToChallenge this and demonstrate that we can prioritize waste reduction and also do away with impositions on women’s bodies.
