Nature Nocturnes Schedule 2016

This summer, join GreenUp Ecology Park environmental educators for evenings of nature discovery! Learn about local plants, bugs, and wildlife. Enjoy nature crafts, scavenger hunts, puppet shows, and more. Rediscover the wonders of nature at GreenUP Ecology Park.

Nature Nocturnes will run Wednesday evenings throughout the summer starting on July 13th and ending on August 24th, 6-8pm. $5 per family.


 

July 13 – CANCELLED DUE TO THUNDERSTORM WARNINGS

July 20 Exploring Wildlife habitats in Ecology Park! Learn about all the special nooks and crannies in Ecology Park that an abundant variety of wildlife call their home.

July 27 Ecology Park tea party! Bring your best tea cup and join us for a nature walk and tea party! Many plants in Ecology Park can be used to make terrific teas. Help us gather some herbs and leaves, and make your own tea bag with your own unique tea ingredients!

August 3 Monarch Mania! The monarchs are here in Peterborough and are looking for milkweed to lay eggs and flowering plants to gather nectar. Join us to learn about this great migratory insect which is facing challenges to its survival.

August 10 Pollen Power! and the Peterborough Pollinators Treasure Hunt. Join us for this special evening with the Peterborough Pollinators and learn about the importance of our local bees and butterflies! A treasure hunt will be set up around the park , as well as a tasting table with Ecology Parks’s very own honey!

August 17 Ants, Plants, and Seeds! Did you know that ants have a special role in woodland ecosystems? They are also a eusocial insect. Join us to discover more about this misunderstood but fascinating insect!

August 24 Ecology Park Summer Family Night & Lantern Festival!

On this special final evening of Nature Nocturnes, Marianne Beacon from Elderberry Herbals will be our guest to make some nature teas from plants which grow right at GreenUP Ecology Park. Participants can sample teas, make their own tea bags and take home a wild bergamot plant to grow in their own yard.

The Paddling Puppeteer will also be providing entertainment and leading us on a lantern walk\bike procession through the trails at Ecology Park.

This is the 4th season for our traditional lantern walk. Bring a mason jar if you can and build your own lantern and join us in a procession around Ecology Park’s demonstration gardens, nature trail, and nursery. The campfire will be ready too!
