Prunus serotina

Prunus serotina
Black Cherry

Black cherry is a native deciduous tree that is now uncommon in local forests due to extensive harvesting of its beautiful red wood for cabinetry.  It blooms with delicate white flowers in early spring, followed by sour cherries in mid-summer.  Once established, this tree is very drought tolerant.  It is host for several species of butterfly, and requires full sun to thrive.
