Community Cycling Programs
Discover the joy of city cycling in Peterborough! These courses will provide you with the knowledge and skills necessary to ride comfortably in traffic. You’ll also get advice about equipment, bike fit, and route planning (including an introduction to Peterborough’s network of trails and paths). The workshops on basic bicycle maintenance and repair will help you address common mechanical failures with confidence. Led by a friendly bike expert, these workshops will run through the things you need to know to feel safe, comfortable, and happy on your own two wheels.
Current courses offered include:
- Bike Nights: Bike Maintenance, Family Fun, Confidence Building, Rides, and Movies
- Peterborough by Bike Tours and Presentations
- 1-1 Learn to Ride Workshops
- Adapted Cycling Workshops
- SPARK Spin Photography Festival Tours and Routes
- Workplace Cycling Workshops
All courses will be taught by the experienced cycling instructors and/or bicycle mechanics from B!KE: the Peterborough Community Cycling Hub and GreenUP.

B!KE and GreenUP have been working collaboratively to increase cycling access and education programming in the Peterborough region since 2012. This collaborative project aims to support people in choosing healthy and active lifestyles. We seek to increase and sustain rates of cycling as a way to address challenges related to chronic physical inactivity and transportation inequity.
While cycling has been marginalized as a form of transportation and recreation, investments in programs that focus on growing bicycle ridership in Peterborough are an effective way to increase the number of active people locally. Current programs are generously funded by the Ontario Trillium Foundation and have received much support from the City of Peterborough and the Peterborough Risk Watch Network.
