Count Week

Thank you for your interest in Count Week 2022!

On September 20th, 21st, and 22nd, 2022, volunteers will spread out through the city of Peterborough to complete 2-hour counts of pedestrians and cyclists. The information collected through this annual event greatly contributes to our understanding of active transportation travel behaviours in Peterborough.

The goal is to have all locations counted twice. Counts happen from 7:30-9:30am or 3-5pm on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday of Count Week. Volunteers can sign up for one count or all six timeslots! It’s up to you and your availability.

Click the Register Button below to sign up for this important citizen science initiative. We are using so that you can choose the date, time, and location that work best for you.

Once you are signed up, we will send you a Count Week 2022 package, with instructions, count sheets, and important COVID-19 health & safety information.

Here’s to citizen science and you!!

(Please Note: The above locations are also being used for Count Week 2022.)

Program History

Over the last decade, in partnership with the City of Peterborough and Trent University, GreenUP has helped to administer annual pedestrian and cyclist counts in Peterborough. The annual counts take place in the third week of September at pre-determined locations through the city. For many years, students from Trent University would complete the survey collection as part of a course requirement – an excellent community-based learning opportunity. With COVID-19 restrictions on post-secondary institutions, the annual counts pivoted to community volunteers in 2020 and 2021.
