Rain Barrels + Rebates

Rain barrels are an excellent way to capture water that can be used in your garden and yard.

Your tap water is supposed to be great for you to drink, but it may not be great for your plants. Tap water can contain salts, minerals, and treatment chemicals. The plants in your garden are accustomed to drinking up rain water – it is what they want!

Plus, using rain barrels can reduce your demands on municipal water systems or your well during droughts and low water conditions.

GreenUP sells rain barrels made from re-purposed, recycled, food-grade olive barrels, complete with brass spigot and overflow valve with a 5 foot drainage hose and a double-meshed screw top lid.

The Peterborough Utilities Group offers their customers a $25 subsidy when purchasing a rain barrel from GreenUP.

In 2021, the Township of Selwyn piloted a $50 subsidy for residents of Selwyn who purchase a rain barrel from the GreenUP Store. This subsidy is continuing in 2022. Only one subsidized rain barrel is available per household.
