Take Climate Action – Start Here

“One of the best places we can begin to take action on climate change is by working on our connection to the land.” – Elder Dorothy Taylor

Rather than ignoring environmental problems in the hope someone else will fix them, you can take personal actions like cleaning up litter and reducing how much garbage you produce to help reduce your impact on the environment and climate change. In partnership with GreenUP’s Sustainable Urban Neighbourhoods program, approximately 100 students and staff from King George Public School in Peterborough organized a clean-up of Armour Hill on April 5, 2018 in celebration of Earth Day.

As you begin to explore climate change and climate action, we invite you to start your journey with a recognition of the interconnectedness between the land, atmosphere, and all living things. In the first video, you will meet Curve Lake Elder Dorothy Taylor to learn of connections between people and the environment, spirituality and science in the context of  Nogojiwanong/Peterborough. This foundational lesson will start you off in a good way.

Next, Cool Captain Climate, a.k.a Glen Caradus, the Paddling Puppeteer, shares with us why we should stand up for the land we stand on. Glen has been working for a cleaner, greener environment in Nogojiwanong/Peterborough for many years. A little further in the series you can learn about how Glen takes action by bike for transportation, and for special environmental causes.
